Robert, Archduke of Austria-Este, Prince Royal of Hungary, Bohemia and Croatia (Schönbrunn, 8 February 1915 – Basel, 7 February 1996), was born as the second son of Emperor Karl I of Austria and Princess Zita of Bourbon-Parma. He succeeded his older brother Emperor Otto as Archduke of Austria after it was annexed by Germany in the aftermath of the European War. He abdicated in the wake of Die Wende which ended all monarchies in Germany.
